Pavement Cube Shed

Covered area for the production of paving cubes in various sizes: 9/11; 4/6; 9/11-5; cobblestones for road paving and other split materials.

The paving cube production area is divided into four zones:

  • Preparation
  • 250-ton Guillotine
  • 20/20 Preparation
  • Hydraulic Stone Breaking Machines

The shed is 80 meters long and 10 meters wide, housing 16 50-ton cube breaking machines. The lower part contains the stone deposits produced by each of the machines.

Sawing

The sawing area currently comprises two pavilions with 5,000 m2 of covered area and a 1,000 m2 block preparation area.

The Preparation Area

The block preparation area, 40 meters wide by 25 meters deep, is serviced by two overhead cranes, one 25-ton and the other 35-ton, and has a single-wire crane for adjusting the block dimensions.

The preparation area will connect to a 35-ton gantry crane that is being prepared for installation, enabling block loading without the use of a wheel loader.

Pellegrini Multiwire Machines

At the beginning of each pavilion are two Pellegrini multiwire machines, one with 34 wires and the other with 40 wires, each served by two loading carts. The cart line serves both multiwire machines. The multiwire machines can cut sheet metal to 20 mm and 30 mm, and any multiples of these two dimensions.

The maximum allowable block height and length are 2200 mm and 3200 mm, respectively.

The First Pavilion

The first pavilion is also equipped with three 3500 mm, 1600 mm, and 600 mm disc machines for cutting and trimming, as well as a CNC machine for the production of monuments and large-format sawn work.

The CNC machine will be assembled during April 2018.

Calibration and Pre-Polishing Line

Marlin has a calibration and pre-polishing line that processes all the slabs it produces. The Calibration and Pre-Polishing Line is equipped with a 10-head Barsanti calibrator, with 6 heads for calibration and 4 for pre-polishing. After passing through the calibration line, the slabs can proceed directly to the polishing line or first to the resin coating line, depending on the needs of the specific project or the client.

Resin Coating Line

The resin coating line is equipped with Breton S.p.A. equipment, purchased by Marlin in November 2017. The process consists of coating the slabs with epoxy resin that fills the natural pores of the stone, resulting in a smooth, glazed surface.

All stages of the resin coating process are automated, from loading the slabs into the machine to their exit from the resin coating line.

The first step consists of drying the slabs, followed by the application of resin and catalyst. For pieces that require special care, this process can be done manually. Next, they are transferred to a vacuum chamber, which facilitates the penetration of the resin into the stone, thus increasing its resistance. The catalyst process involves placing the slabs in a second oven to accelerate and optimize the process. This oven has a capacity of 40 slabs simultaneously.

After drying, the slabs are transferred to the polishing line.

Finishing

The company is equipped with a polishing line, a flaming and bush hammering line, and two bridge machines for trimming. This phase receives the output from the calibration, pre-polishing, and resin coating lines.

Polishing Line

The polishing line processes the slab after it has passed through the calibration and pre-polishing line and the slab resin coating line.

The polishing line includes a Breton Levibreton KG 2000 polisher with 19 polishing heads, allowing Marlin to operate at high production capacity. The first four heads are used for resin removal, while the remaining polish the slab.

After polishing, a waxing machine applies wax to the slab, and another machine applies a protective polystyrene film to the slab during storage and transportation.

The current processing capacity is two minutes per slab, or 1,800 m2 of stone per shift. Cometti is equipped to process 240 slabs with an average size of 7.5 m2 per day.

Textured Finishes

The flaming and bush hammering line equipment is manufactured by Construal and has a processing capacity of 20 m² per hour for flaming and 12 m² per hour for bush hammering. The maximum sheet width is 1600 mm.

Cutting Machines

The cutting machines were supplied by Construal. They are 5-axis machines.

Technical Area

The technical area includes fuel storage, electric generators, compressed air compressors, and the water treatment plant.
