The Quarry: Granite African Black
The quarry develops in an area of some tens of hectares (more than 70 ha).
The explored rock “Granite African Black” is a melanocratic rock, with dark grey tint, containing scattered black crystals of centimetre size. It presents granular, phaneritic texture, of fine to medium grain. The constituent minerals usually present grains with an euhedral to subhedral shape and some with a prismatic tendency, without lineation, cracks, pores or cavities. The rock does not present any type of orientation, foliation, schist or apparent tectonic deformation.
It is a rock of intrusive (plutonic) igneous origin, composed mainly of non-equidimensional grains of pyroxenes and plagioclases, with holocrystalline texture, phaneritic, non-equigranularity, medium to coarse grain, with a hip idiomorphic tendency.
